Greatings all, sorry to but in, but I am trying to find out widths of dana 44 centerd differential one piece axle rear ends. Do any come in a width between 54.5" to 56"? Maybe an '86 CJ I thought I read about?
I am trying to find a cheap and easy fix for my Volvo that the machine shop ruined welding-up and re-drilling my hubs and axle shafts. Moving the lugs 1/8th" from 5x4.25" to 5x4.5", they wound up a 1/10th" out of round.
The car came with a 54.5" hub to hub dana 27, and I put in a 56" Volvo copy of a beefed up dana 30. I want to turbo the 6 cylinder and thought that maybe I could bolt up a 3.73 dana 44 to my disk brakes and control arms with out to much fuss.
Chevy Blazers and Ford Broncos came with a 54.5" wide 7.5" rear end w/ disk brakes, but I don't like c-clips and wonder if they are strong enough.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

You could just have Currie cut some new shafts for your axle with the right lug pattern. The '86 CJ Dana 44 is kinda hard to find. Maybe a '72-'75 CJ-5 rear 44 with wheel spacers will work?

Thanks Jp Editor, I did that and they laughed. I even contacted Dana/Spicer and evidently the only thing common with the D30 and my Volvo 1031 is the center carrier. I don't even think that the R/P crosses over. I wonder if the volvo's R/P isn't a D35's? The only D30 rear wheel drive I know of is the Ford Areo Star, but thier outer axle bearings are a smaller metric size then Volvo's English sizes.
For about $700 I could ship another set of axles and front hubs out to Dutchmans' in Washington and go the welded up flanges and bolt holes and redrilled bolt pattern route again, and then change the carrier and R/P from 3.31 to 3.73.
I was just hoping to find an easy fix. What more do you know about the '72-'75 CJ-5's? If they are 51.5" wide as I recall, a set of 1.5" spacers would work, but I'll have to check if the brake disks won't interfer with the frame rails.
What gear ratios might they have?
I have figured out that Mopar B-body front spindles should bolt right up to my control arms after I install Mopar ball joint sleaves giving me 12" front disks.
Thanks again
