We all know that when you go play, *** happens. It is at this point you realize that it would be an easy fix if only you wouldn't have left that only tool you need at home (you know, took it out of the tool box and forgot to put it back). This has happened to me and I have seen it happen to friends several times. This is why I want to make a Perfect Trail Tool Box for a Jeep. This tool box will remain in the Jeep and only be used for trail fixes. Remember, I drive TJ and don't have a lot of room, so it has to be a reasonably sized tool box.

Well, if you were doing this project what would be in your toolbox?

thats a good idea to have ...i think one good thing to do is look over the whole rig and check bolt/nut sizes and see what is the most common and stick those sizes in the box along w/the same wrenches, along w/some misc. tools...put in a box that bolts to the floor behind seat that maybe has a pullout drawer?

what is most likely to break, and what are the bare essentials neaded to make the repair?...

I always have the toy hauler near by with the shop box and wire feed in it..o' and the air tools, cause I'm lazy!

seriously...for the jeep, a full set of metrics..12pt. wrenches, short, deep sockets, ones with the 8,10,12,and 15mm...hub socket, various wobblies, torx and of course the ratchet and assorted screw drivers...my box has mant extra fasteners floating around the bottom also. It all fits in a small box that fits between the back seat and gate.

did I mention a big hammer too?

i love the pullout toolbox's... i always carry an assortment of cotter pins and some wiring tools... you rip a wire while on the trail and the vehicle won't run because of one stupid little wire then you're sure pissed because you're going home due to a little 14 gauge wire...

How about a tuffy underseat full drawer that goes from under the seat to the tailgate?  If needed then bolt a metal toolbox that cantilevers open on top of the drawer.

I have no back seat in my YJ. I use a metal army box. Not sure what it was used for, but my grandfather brought it home from WWII. Its just perfect for the back. Its painted OD green. Plenty of room for tools, gear oil, brake fluid, etc. It fits under the Hi Lift jack mounted in the back. I prolly take to much, but its better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Also I saw a neat lil invention. It was a bench vise mounted on square tubbing for your rec. hitch.  This might not be new ,but it was to me.
