I have a question regarding the quadra trac tranfer case that is in my 79 cj7. How do i manually engage the transfer case i was told that i could because of failing vacuum lines and i am yet to find the lever. any help would be greatly appreciated

Sorry, but there is no lever.  The best thing would be to replace the vacuum lines, or the vacuum shift valve if it is leaking.  Sometimes refered to as the "Emergency Drive Shift Valve". The valve is still available through several distributors.  Also replacing the vacuum lines is straight forward, and fairly easy.  I did see an article once where a guy converted a Quadra-trac from vacuum to manual shift, but it looked like more work than it was worth.

the quadra trac is a clutched transfer case... the switch in the glove box is to lock the clutch's  kindof like a selectable locker... when it's unlocked it's more like an all wheel drive vehicle... when you lock it it's like a true 4x4... then there's the hi/low... it's all driven with a big meaty chain inside the case... and if it stretch's out then you may as well get a new t/case... some hail it as the best transfer case ever made... but then they have to go take their meds...

th q is actually a good unit when it's cared for and kept up, unless you're doing extreme stuff it rarely needs to be locked..much like the 203's.
the problem with swaping it for something else is the offset rear end...can lead to some nasty vibes...
Borg-Warners 13-39 transfer case was marketed as Quadra-Trac. It is different from Quadra-Trac found in later models. The BW 13-39 was only used with an AMC version of the GM TH-400 automatic transmission with a special long 10 spline output. It is not bolt compatible with any other Jeep transmission. Q-Trac is a full time four wheel drive system that directs power to the wheel with the least traction. There is an arrangement similar to an limited slip differential that splits power between the front and rear driveshafts. There is a vacuum operated emergency drive switch the locks the differential within the transfer case, so that power is sent equally to the front and rear axle. the chain is the weak link of the Q-trac. the low range is 2.57-1.

no... i don't have the quadratrac... if i remember right you have to have a special oil specifically for the quadratrac... when i did my swap i used the entire drivetrain from the dodge... nv 4500 and np 205... i didn't trust the quadratrac w/ all that torque... and it was easier keeping the dodge drivetrain complete
