jetattack: "I think the general rule of thumb is avoid waiving to any wrangler with a V-engine or with 4 cylinders.."
Why are you saying avoid waving to any 4 cylinder wrangler? mines got a 4 banger, and it just does as well off road as jeeps that are worth 3 times as much! I dont understand why you say that? how can you tell if its a 4 cylinder when your driving towards it?

yeah.... whats wrong with a 4 banger? on the trail ya can't tell the difference other than the noise it makes out the tail pipe...
the main thing here is the type of users the jk is catering to...

I live in AZ, right next to the Huachuca Mountains. There are many jeeps in my area. But!!!! I from my point of view, I see that the newer the Jeep the less of "Jeep" person that is driving it. I have had several jeeps from CJ, YJ, XJ, WJ, I currently have an 82 CJ7 and my wife drives a Liberty. Very rare do I get the "wave" or have it returned. I have nothing against the JK or the drivers, but it seems to be less of a "Jeep thing" anymore. It sad to see. I will always wave to or return a wave from any Jeep driver. Like some people in have stated at least they had the common sense to buy a Jeep. ![]()
On another JK note I thought this was an interesting article http://www.rockcrawler.com/features/newsshorts.07april/wrangler_altitude.asp

When I had my 86 CJ7 I wave at everybody w/a jeep and they waved back. Even my 99 cherokee got waves. Now I have a 79 cherokee and the only wave I get is from my Bull mastiff waving his tail wondering when Im gonna fix the engine so we can go play!!!! I have a hard time waving at yuppies who think theyre cool driving a jeep and never taking it in the dirt.(Ive always wondered why they built 2x4 when the jeep was born a 4x4?) And then you have the dude that dont wave at 4bangers or v8s...why? how do you know whats under the hood? and what happens when this dude is stuck and a 4banger or a v8 jeep comes along and wants to lend a hand?hell my FSJ was born w/a 360 does that mean he wont wave at me? Im sad!

I haven't seen one on the trail down here in Puerto Rico yet, or even one that is dirty yet. All the ones I've seen were sitting in the mall parking lot.

I suppose you won't wave at a lifted jeep that someone bought that way because real jeeps are built not bought!!Right. If you have ever tried wheeling with 3 kids in car seats then you might appreciate the extra doors.

I have a buddy that has an all stock TJ except with 31"AT. He get more waves in his Jeep than I get in my '91 built YJ. I still wave at most Jeeps (when I can see them-paying attention) but most Jeeps don't wave back at me. My stepsister has a Jeep and one day asked me why people were waving at her. Hell, the newer ones with the younger drivers sometimes don't even understand it. As I stated before,I still wave but I do understand that most people don't wave back.

Well my wife has a 07 4dr unlimited and she sometimes gets mad when she waves and they don't waved back.I tell her not all jeep drivers are Jeepers.Heck I tell her most the jeeps out there have more chevy, ford or whatever part in them not that takes anything away from them its more about the lifestyle and spirit of Jeep.Enjoying the outdoors, the company of others and sharing that story you will always remeber.

I try and wave to fellow Jeepers, and I drive a 96 Grand Cherokee ZJ that I just lifted and started really working on. I find that the TRUE Jeepers waze no matter what you drive, the model purists only wave to fellow model Jeep owners and the people that just own a daily commuter that happens to be a Jeep don't even see ya wave! I must say that I try to wave if it looks like its been modified at all, and they usually wave back. The ones I pass every day that never wave, I stop waving too. Had the same thing when I owned muscle cars, some waved some did not, some got offended, some smiled and would actually look for you at a show to talk. But it does feel good when they smile and wave back, like you fit into an elite group of people who REALLY appreciate what a Jeep is all about!!

that sounds about right to me but I was just about to give up until yesterday, I got a wave and yes it does feel good to see some people out in california do wave. It was a yj with bfg a/t's a hi lift jack and it was a women driving so all these guys out here in cali who don't want to wave just buy a pink front plate so I can see you coming down the and won't waist my time.

I can't bring myself to wave at the 4 door wranglers. I even find it hard to wave at the wranglers all jacked up that you know will never see the trail. I definately wave to all CJs

Ya thats a shame when someone has a jeep that is all pretty for the road and never see any dirt, when my jeep is coming down the road you know that it handles pretty much any task that I throw at it.
