After being stuck all day Sunday on my frame in the Snow, and pulling lots of cable. I came to the conclusion that my winch controller was a real pain. Having the cord through the window, to drive while winching was a joke. One of the guys I was with, had a switch inside his cab that ran his winch. It worked great, and turned out to be a quick upgrade. Yesterday I spent $30.00 and 2 hrs. putting one in my Jeep. I found several wiring scamatics on the internet just by using the above subject line. Or you can go to Roadless Gear and they have the same kit for under $30.00. Just a quick project for you guys to keep you playing, when your not able to really play!!!!!

I've never really been a fan of the dash-mounted winch switch. In really hairy situations it's way easier for me to keep my hand on the remote than my finger on the dash switch, especially if the Jeep is bouncing around. Yeah, the cord can be a pain but I like the remote in my hand.

I have the sme feeling here..I use a wireles remote on my Mile Marker 9500si...so the cord is no trouble ..I can even operate it with my teeth..

that would be about right...by the time you figure the relays and a couple switches or a two way.

$30.00 was just 15' of 4 wire Trailer wiring (heavy duty), 1 Momentary switch, 1 On/Off lighted switch, & a handfull of assorted connectors.
( Some winches are just a 3 wire set up, and you could use a chunk of old extention cord)

Still, The winch runs independent I believe. You have 4 wires that run the winch. In, Out, Power, and Ground. Go to the following link, and click the instruction Link.

http://www.parksoffroad.com/tacomamods/incabwinchcontrol/incabwinchcontrol.htm

That will show you how to hook it up for the winch. I'll bet if you follow the remmaining unused wires and attach to them, you could also put a compressor switch inside.

How's that wireless remote treating you Mud? It seems like a great idea to me but I'm still a little weary of it given how important it is to have a winch work when needed...

it works great even when I'm 120 feet away from the winch draging out cable....of course I always have the original plug in handi but I've never needed it...

Guys it's real simple just remove the control box from the winch get some # 4 wire and route the box inside the cab nice and neet.
I t took me all of one hour to do this, Make sure you use at Least # 4 wire so you don't have a problem with the amps your pulling when in use. . Mine installed on the passenger kick panel and looks great , wires ran through fire wall rubber grommet
and are out of the way. Now I have the remote inside high and dry and controll in my hands. Now there is no chance for the relays and conecters to get rusted up.

Price..... The cost of the wire $10.00
It works really well and looks great too.

Happy trails

You can use extention cord wiring
(ONLY IF YOU ARE PUTTING THE SWICTH IN THE CAB).
But if you plan on running the controll box inside the cab you need to use no less then # 4 wire to handle the extra run of wire from box to motor in order to handle the amp draw.
