i just got a solid 89 2 door cherokee, it has a 4.0 and 5 speed, i looked at the tranny and i think it is an ax 15, i didnt see any bolts holding the case together.  the production date is 4/89, i thought the ba 10 was used all of 89, any info on this?  my little brother just bought two cherokees, both 2 door 4.0 5 speeds, ones a 92 and the other is an 89.  He gave me the 89, and i just cant believe that it has an ax 15! Both are in great condition, run good and the bodies arent even rusted, Pittsburgh is tough with salt.
