I'm trying to help a friend work on his 89 Wrangler.  Someone else swapped a 304 into this Jeep, and it's a pig.  I think the stock six cylinder would have had more power.  Anyway, we're rebuilding a 360 AMC engine for this Jeep now, and we have a Torque Command 727 we want to put into it at the same time.  The Jeep currently has a Peugeot 5-speed in it, which as far as I can gather means it has a long 21 spline output shaft.  If anyone knows better, please let me know.

Anyway, does anyone know of a source for what I would need to buy to adapt the 727 to this 231 transfer case?  Any help you could give me would be very appreciated.

Thanks.

I've already checked on Novak's and Advance Adapters' websites and don't see anything for the 727 to 231.

all i know about the AMC 360 w/ the 727 is that it also had a borg warner quadra-trac transfer case... which had a big gnarly chain/belt inside and was unlike pretty much any transfer case made since... it was a one of a kind type thing... so it might behoove you to look for another tranny while your at it... might get lucky and find something that'll work better anyway... but don't give up just yet...

i have a 91 YJ and i put in a 360/727 with a dana 300. i do know that the jeep np 231 shares the same bolt pattern 6 bolt round type as on the 727 and earlier jeep t cases (208, d300, 231, np241 roc track (rubicon). the reason there is no adapter for it is because you dont need one. i used the adapter housing that the 208 bolted to.
the t case that most likely came off the 727 was a 208 a good case, stronger than the 231. both aluminum case and chain driven. a clocking ring might be good idea but not needed.

in short, yes it bolts up and you should have no problems. get it done.

I don't have the adapter, just the transmission.  Would an adapter from a Dodge truck with a 727 and a 208 bolt up?  Who sells a clocking ring, Advance or Novack?

Thanks for the replies.

yeah, the dodge should work, sometimes you can redrill the holes to clock the cases, depends on the adaptor.
