I have a 98 TJ with a Rough Country 4" lift including tranfer case drop down. The shifter hits the side of the console in first and second gear and makes it pretty hard to shift. I have trimmed the tunnel as instructed and it does not rub there, only on the console.Any ideas? Thanks

can you trim or adjust the console?

reangle the rear pinion, get a CV driveshaft and put the t-case back up where it belongs.

just an opinion, I know the shafts are'nt cheap and a SYE kit is a little spendy, you lifted it 4" then droped the belly almost 2"??
I'm sure someone can help, I never use the t-case drops.

I can't help either other than to recommend putting the trans back where it should be like Mud said..

with a 4" lift, isn't the transfer drop necessary? I don't want to get CV driveshafts or worry about breaking U joints. Thanks

the t-case drop is kinda the "backyard" fix to a major geometry problem, over time you'll eat up several u-joints, wear out the output bushing in the t-case not to mention the seal will start leaking, stress on the engine mounts from the front of the engine pointing up, linkage problems, and loss of ground clearance.
I think the only drop that doesn't look dumb is the skyjacker and fabtech.

if you're looking to eliminate drive shaft related problems, the SYE and CV shaft is basically the only way to go. Rough Country got you an affordable lift, It's up to you to complement it with the rest of the neccesary drive shaft parts and eliminate the need for the drop or live with what you have.

I'm sure I sound like a jerk, sometimes, I always learn things the hard way.

I guess I was just under the impression that with the lift I needed to at least do the transfer drop or I would realy have problems with u joints and the driveshaft slipping out due to the increased angle. Thanks for the info.

most of the manufactures recommend the use of a CV along with the t-case drop.
nothing will slip out with a 4" short arm lift, the factory non greaseable joints won't last very long from the vib.
the drop will do the trick, just causes other issues in the process and in the near future when/if you install a Slip yolk eliminator and a constant velocity drive shaft, the t-case can get put back where it belongs or even get a high clearance skid.
