Jeep won't start...

My '95 wrangler will not start.  I can start it and drive it once it is, but if I go to start it within about twelve hours and it will repeat the same thing.  I had a security system in it and it will not start if the chip isn't in it.  I assumed there was a short or something in the wires, so I disconnected it.  I just recently had the battery charged.  I think it's the starter or the solenoid, but I'm not sure.  When it doesn't start, it won't do anything; no attempt to turn over, nothing.  Tell me what you think.

The security system is disabled because the wires that the original owner used were of a bigger ampage than the original wires he spliced to make the connection...

Like mudb8 said, check the connections to the battery. Also, is the starter turning the engine over, or you getting a clicking noise from the Solenoid? If your not getting either one of those, I would start checking your wiring from the alarm. Try that tap test, have someone trying to start it, and go around tapping the wiring where the alarm was, if you got a loose connection, you should be able to find it.  A lot of time, a battery will appear charged and work normally, until you try to start the engine. Starters draw a lot of current. Try another battery, or try jumping from a running vehicle to see if that fixes it. Another quick check if you have a volt meter is to check voltage while it isn't running, and while still checking voltage, have someone try starting the jeep. If the voltage drops way down while starting, your battery is toast. Good luck...

The starter isn't doing anything.  I disconnected the starter so that the original wires with the correct ampage were connected.  I'm going to get the starter tested.  Is it ok to take off the black scrunchy tubing on the battery cables so I can examine them?

yep, it keeps them from rubbing through the insulation, be sure to put it back on. does it turn over if you jump the starter wire to the batt. wire?

if that works then it must be the power to the fuse panel, which the alarm blocks. could be a burnt inline fuse or a bad wire/loose conection.
you can use a screwdriver to jump the starter posts (not recomended) or another piece of wire.

The alarm isn't in it any more.  It's totally removed.  The wires on for the alarm were of a higher amperage than the wires they were wired to, so I thought that was the problem and removed them, but it was only part of the problem.

Ok, the alarm was a relay that basicly shut off the power,

that may still be the problem. somewhere between there and the starter.
