Should I get reverse rotation gears or standard rotation gears for my Dana 44's?  

Well that depends... is your dana 44 a straight cut or reverse cut?

Let's put it this way, what is is out of?  

i have no idea!  i have dana 44's from a jeep, i don't know what year, but i know that they have 2.73 gears in them and i was told that with 35" tires, it's not kosher.  so, now i have to buy new gears.  what is the difference in the gear anyway?  i was told that 4.88 would be the best.  help if you can, please?

no, i was told 2.73.  i was looking for other axles via junk yard dogs and they do ask if you are looking for 2.73 gears and etc.  

look at the tag on the front differential cover, it should have it stamped on the tag.  

this should clear up the reverse cut question...............
