I need to take a trip to my parents house, where my jeeps and landcruiser are, and get the numbers off the block of the 360. I want to know what year the motor is. I looked high and low all over the internet and my patience is wearing thin. I thought that the TH 400 was a 4-spd auto, now I realize it's a 3. The guy at advance adapters said that if I find a TH 400 with the AMC bolt pattern it will work. He also claimed all I will need is a flex-plate to mate it to the motor. He then said that my Dana 300 will bolt directly to the side of the tranny. I read online that the only t-case that will work is either a Quadra-trac or model 20. Cut and dry, what do I need to look for and or buy?!?!

So...I called about some of those parts. I could've paid $400 for a TH400 with a Q-trac and front and rear drive shafts located about $30 worth of gas away...but I decided to buy another parts CJ 7. I now have 3 CJ7s... I picked up a 79 with a very clean, oil leak free 258 and a TH 400 Q-trac. So, if for some crazy reason I ever decided to run a Q-trac, I have the case and offset rear axle. Here is where I stand. I now have an AMC 360 ready to be pulled. A TH400 that will be pulled today, cleaned and painted. I'm gonna buy the Dana 300 adapter pieces from Advance Adapters, unless you know of anywhere cheaper, and slap the Dana on the TH 400. I've decided not to mess with the column shift, I'm gonna take advantage of the whole I already have in the floor. Any good shift kits with linkage??? I really appreciate you're advice, you seem very knowledgeable. I just want to get this show on the road, pretty tough when you live in an apartment complex.

I went to the Hurst website and browsed REALLY quickly and didnt see an application that was very specific. I'll look into that more. I got the TH400 pulled this weekend and need to order the Dana 300 adapter kit. I have an Edelbrock 650 carb to slap on the 360. The 360 has headers that exit under the frame. Has anyone ever ran headers like that? I dont know if my mechanic will pass the emissions because I dont know how I can run cats. I will have to look into PA inspection laws to see about this, worst case, I rig something up for inspection. Anybody ever put an automatic floor shift kit on a TH 400?

Some states have laws that exempt older vehicles from emmissions tests. I am not sure about there, but in Missouri, if it is older than 15 years it doesn't have to have a cat. In my opinion, side exhaust looks and sounds a lot better. You will need to the headers that run outside of the frame. But, that is just my opinion. Mine were Hedman Headers. Don't remember what they ran. If you go that route, be sure to put a 90 on the end to run the exhaust away from the Jeep. Trust me, choking on fumes at stop lights sucks monkey balls....

the shifters are pretty much one size fits all, they just mount on the floor. as long as you get one for a 3 speed. some are specific for a reverse pattern valve body. your talking lakePipe style headers? I'd rather run a normal tube header and keep the pipes up in the frame. I have no Idea on PA emissions, I just pass through once in a while.
