Hello,
My friend and I have been working on a brake conversion for a 1970 CJ 5. We are following the instructions from the article posted on March 06 in JP Magazine called: "Early Jeep Disc Brake Conversion - Timeless Tech Drum to Disc". The problem is we purchased a set of used 1/2-ton 4x4 caliper mounting brackets (which used to belong to a 1985-1986 Chevy Blazer) and they don't look anything like the brackets posted in the article, also the disc and the bracket keep rubbing against each other. I would like if someone could tell me to what GM or Chevy vehicle do the brackets in the article belonged to? I have pictures available upon request, Please HELP!!!!!

are you using chev spindles, rotors, and hub along with the backing plate mount from the 85? they are the same on the 1/2 tons from 81 up to 87 on trucks 89 on suburban and blazer. (10 bolt) earlier models use the dana 44 front.
Post those pics or send the url, and I'll do it.

must have been 79 when they went to the 10 bolt, you could probably use the backing plate, and caliper, from a late 70's cherokee also, almost forgot they are six lug. the backing plate goes on before the spindle.
they were specific on the parts..... hope this helps out.
What you need: * Calipers from a '71-'78 Chevy 1/2-ton or light-duty 3/4-ton 4x4 with a Dana 44* Caliper mounting brackets from a '73-'91 1/2-ton Chevy 4x4* Rotors from a '77-'78 CJ. These rotors are 1 1/8-inch thick* Ten longer wheel studs (we used Dorman PN 610106)* Chevy 1/2-ton brake lines (Pro Comp PN 7220)* A grinder* Standard handtools* Brake fluid, new hard brake line, banjo bolts, and a bleeder kit

post the pics right here on this tread, click on the mountain symbol them paste the url in the box the url will show up on the thread and will show the pic when you click post. If it doesn't work for you just paste the url in your thread, I'll post it for you. If the backing plate doesn't look like the one in the article it isn't the right one. hopefully we can figure out what it is by looking at it.

think I got things fixed, the e-bay plates are just missing the bolt on dust cover, you can see the difference.

Couldn't agree more. The only thing that keeps bothering me is that those brackets are advertised as 3/4-ton, so that means either the info in the article isn't accurate or the person selling them on Ebay made a mistake. Whatever...
I can get those dust covers from LMC Trucks, I saw them the other day....Well I guess thisd is it, thanks for your help we really appreciate it!

good luck. I don't think there is a problem with the info in the article, I'm sure the backing plates you have aren't from a 85 or 6 blazer, maybe 75 or 76 for sure.

they are early model backing plates. before abs brakes.

i don't have pic's of them up yet. if you need part number I can post them.

yes! early 150 72-79 front axles were dana 44's if you can get a hold of early truck parts that would be the way to go since you work there. same with mid, early 80's bronco front axles were dana 44's but not the IFS front ends.
