Project Jeep

I am looking for a good project vehicle for car shows, crusing, and drag racing.  And I want something that is different.  I recently saw a Jeep with a small block Chevy engine, and was very interested.  There is plenty of room to work on it, there are lots of light weight parts available, and it is not something you see everyday.  Plus, with roof and doors removed, it is close to a motorcyle/T bucket.

My concerns-would the short wheelbase make the Jeep unstable for drag racing?  My plans would be to make it a Pro Street rod, and would include lowering it and removing the front differential.

Has anyone done anything like this before?  Is it practical, or would I be building a 10 second death trap?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

There is a guy who built exactly what you want and from the write up on it it was a lot of fun. Look in the featured vehicles section of this web site and you should find it

That Jeep looks great.  It gives me inspiration plus releaves me of any fears that it wont go straight.

Drag cars like any fast fun toy take a lot of tweaking and wrenching but when it is all done its sure worth it.

What appeals to me about the Jeep is that there is plenty of room to work on the engine and suspension.  Plus, it is not as common as Novas, Chevelles, Camaros, etc.  I like being different.  And the option of open cockpit/hard top looks great.  And there are tons of parts available.  And lots of knowledgeable people like you guys!
