not sure on the 08 but there long travel air shocks for the jeeps, problem is the air expands and creates a rough ride, they are great for short runs and crawling. an air bag system could be cool to replace the coils but they would probably limit the suspension travel drasticly, going with a set of 22's and never off road there you go.

anyone try it? everything i've read sounds great, except for the price... the local jeep shop here (xtreme unlimited) installs them, and i've talked to a couple of guys that have had them installed, but their jeeps are a little too scratch and dirt free if you know what i mean. oro claims 8" of travel for their 4" set up. they also self adjust to the payload which is pretty cool if you drive it to work and back empty, then load it up for weekend trail runs. another thing i like is the control over the front, rear, and side to side ride height on the fly. it'd be sweet to be able to drop the front and raise the rear on steep climbs, level it on off camber stuff etc... i was planning on getting a york compressor anyway, and the rest of the stuff is all the usual lift kit extras you gotta due anyway. i think the price was about $3200. hmmm... so if anyone runs this system write about it! i need to be convinced so i can start convincing the ol lady.

i've seen an article in four wheeler magazine back in the 80's that featured a guy who did a home fabrication with air bags from a big truck. he put them on a cj8 i believe. i don't have the article anymore, but from what i remember, he did get pretty good articulation out of it.

There was an article in Maybe JP or one of the sister rags several years ago ( 2005?) about a kit that is for lifted jeeps that goes on top of your coils for more lift. Maybe something along this line would do.

part of the intrigue of the oro setup to me is the ability to control and adjust the system on the fly with the little computer thing on the dash, it would be pretty cool to create one from scratch, though it would be pretty tough to be able to be able to easily adjust it while wheeling. probably more trial and error than i would be willing to afford or stand. just a little more convincing her...

I haved looked through a few mini truck magazines and their air ride systems cost way less money and offer the same thing. They also seem to be able to control one tire at a time. A few years back JP had an old yellow CJ on the cover that had a hydrolic type suspension system on it. He was able to lift one tire at a time to do repairs or pee on other jeeps. There was susposed to be a full feature on it but it was never featured again. Id love to find out more info on it.

i doubt that the system in the mini truck magazines have the kind of travel and durability needed for off road use. also, i doubt that they offer anything more than a couple of toggle switches to control it, and not a computer controled system with ride level sensors, default settings, etc...check out the air rock system on the off road only website and it'll probably be very obvious that what they don't have in common is more prevalant the what they do.

The jeep I was talking about was not an independent suspension. It was yellow with lots and lots of body damage on 44s and had leaf springs. I think he used hydrolic cyliders in place where the shock absorbers would go but he was able to turn them off. I will look up the issue number.
And lintercorey you should pick up a truck magazine and page through it before all these doubts.

June 2004 issue was the one with the hydrolic jeep. The story was titled "Bigger meat run" if someone from the jeep headquarters could put up more info on that jeep it would be very appreciated.
