probably the cost difference between the SBC and the 4.0 is how much you spend on the motor, either way you're still looking at motor mounts, radiator, and adaptor for the tranny. if DEQ is involved the 4.0 would maybe be cheaper although you'll want at least 4:88 gears to turn those 35's.
score a 90's caprice ex cop car at a local auction and you'll have a lt-1 350 with all the wiring, emissions and computer controls fairly cheap. if you go automatic throw in a a new output shaft in the 700r4 or 460le whichever one it happens to have.

i have a 1995 chevy k 4x4 with i 305 and a 5 speed in it, works quite well if you ask me, and i love my super quiet transfer case it has. It should work great for your setup, as long as you dont beef up your 350 to much, but, parts are still kinda spendy on these trucks, but you might be able to find a crashed one for pretty cheap. as to the installing of them, this is a pricey thing to have a shop do for you... you would be better off to do it yourself.. they charge you like $60 dollors an hour for that kinda stuff.. if you have any wrenching ability do it your self, as to most of your problems as motor mounts and wireing, call advanced adaptors and painless wireing. they will hook you up, just tell them what you got. and what you are putting in.
