Ok seariously, I know my 89' xj with 6.5" suspension lift and 35" tires will never ride like a cadillac, but besides tearing it apart and building a baja truck what are some mods I can do to improve the ride @ hi speeds? Yea I know grease the shackles, air down the tires, bla bla bla... Im talking about progressive rate springs, long arm suspension, or maybe even a coil over shock conversion, some say flipping the shocks might help? I am currently running the shocks that came with the kit, cheapie hydro shocks probably which are about 2 yrs old now. I also removed the rear sway bar (helped alot!) and have the jks quick disconnect up front... If anyone has gone through these transformations with any vehicle or has similar experience talk it up...I want to give something new a try!

I really hope that you don't intend to drive with the front sway bar disconnected, they don't make the ride stiff they just control roll stiffness, with the rear disconnected I'm sure you can already feel an unfavorable cornering condition, with out the front it's just dangerous,
Not all shocks are designed to operate upside-down, so don't flip the shocks. they won't bolt on upside-down anyhow.
Look into some adjustable shocks like rancho 9000's, for example
Progresive rate springs get stiffer as they are compressed, great for cornering and are a plus over the ride quality of a heavy duty, If you want a caddy ride get soft ride springs (skyjacker), coil overs are for the trail not the street. hook the rear sway bar back up before you roll it.

These tires were made for muddin and they're gonna throw mud all over you.

Well No, Front Sway bar stays on, not worried about rolling this thing on the street...a) because it hardly is on the street. b) because it actually corners and rides just fine with the rear sway bar removed. In fact in actually rides better in my opinion. I usually take it on the street maybe 5-6 times a month, or maybe occasionally to get some milk from the store...Thanks for the input though... I have considered Skyjacker coils, never bothered to really look into them being a progressive spring though...good advice! Got any suggestions as to which company make a well put together progressive rate spring, besides skyjacker?

glad to hear it, I ran accros some on e-bay a while back that sounded pretty good, they manufacture them, and have a e-bay store, I'll see if I can find it again later. I wasn't looking at springs, just happened to bump into them. I think they were about $150 a pair which seems to be the norm.

As for the coilovers...I have heard great things about them...they ride great and since you can control the amount of gas, and fluid that goes into your shock they are very adjustable and can be very flexible...but havent seen many XJs with coilovers, probably because of the difficulty required to do a conversion on this unibody jeep.......What about a Longer control arms...Rusty's offroad, (where I got the idea for removing the sway bars) makes a completely bolt on kit...and it would makes sense that this would improve ride quality since it stops direct impact with the front control arms with the unibody mounts and moves them more parallel with body and decreases the amount of energy absorbed by the body upon impact with an obstacle...What does the public think?

longer arms definitely help the ride and flex. no argument there. If you have the means to get them they are the way to go. don't forget uni body reinforcement links, I don't understand how disconnecting the rear sway bar helps the ride unless it is lifted and still has the stock length link that is putting it in a bind, they don't apply any force except to the up travel side and help to keep the tires planted and the vehicle level. I guess it's one of those "seat of the pants feel".
I couldn't find the springs on e-bay YET. evidently I didn't save the store on my account.
Have you looked at Old Man Emu springs? (OME)
Rusty's also says that a wheel to wheel tie rod is the answer to tj steering problems, I wonder why jeep went with the y-link.

Rock krawler suspensions makes a full coilover long arm kit for the xj that might solve all your problems. rockkrawler.com is the web site.

You know Mudb8 youre exactly right the kit didnt come with a longer rear sway bar and ever since I put it on the back suspension was jarring...So I removed plus as you know removing a sway bar increases flex, one less thing I have to do on the trail...Thanks for the tip crawlijuana...are their coils progressive?

Sorry I sorta got that wrong. The kit only has rear coilovers and the front are regular coil springs which I dont think are progressive. The rear coil overs are stacked with two springs which have diferent compression ratios so once the lighter ratio is compressed totally the heavy ratio takes over which makes for a very smooth ride. I beleive they also sell a rear only kit which would really improve the ride quality and might save you a little coin by just doing the rear.  Anyway I hope this helps you out and doesnt confuse you.

you were right the first time they have both front and rear coil over kits that seem to be awesome, I especially like the front 3 link long arm and was considering using one for the rubi but I didnt want to get 8"'s higher. now they have angled arms for more clearance and a high clearance belly skid.

then again it's an xj, I look at them but don't pay so much attention to them because I don't have one.

endless options.

Yeah I am really liking the rock krawler suspensions. They even make a pre running suspension for the TJ to compete in Jeep Speed. Its only a four inch lift but it does extend the rear 4 or 5 inches. Not to mention solid stock lower control arms.
