I seem to remember an article about lifting a cherokee (1988) using common "junkyard" parts. I remember it netted a 3 " lift and that it used Grand Cherokee front coils and either ford ranger or chevy s-10 rear leaves...anyone remember the specifics of this article. It's time to turn my "parts-chaser" into a toy. I also have a 1994 Wrangler with a 3" Rough-Country lift, Pacesetter header, High-flow cat., "old-school" 'glass pack muffler and 33 x 12 1/2 Wild Country Radial RVT's on black steelies. Can anybody tell me if Jeep used an 8" wide aluminum wheel and if so, what was it used on...I have to "wheel on the cheap". I am also looking for info to "stroke" my 4.0, since I just replaced it with a boneyard motor. I have a 2000 4.0 intake manifold that came with the throttle body, injectors and fuel rail...but thats it...I can't seem to find an engine wiring harness or ECU around here...Please help me, I need the extra H.P. to turn those 33's oh, and I still have the 3.07 gears...what ration would be better. It is my daily driver that sees off road (mud, sand, hills) on occasion.

It used ford f-150 front coils and s-10 rear springs, I prefer 4:88's for 33's 4:10 work but almost never see overdrive except going down hill or on the flat.

These tires were made for muddin and they're gonna throw mud all over you.

ZJ springs up front are a good, cheap way to get the front up

How much of a lift do the ford springs make on a XJ?

that's what the article was about, the f 150's coils lift it about 3"'s along with the rear s-10 packs.

if the top leaf won't bolt to the jeep you'll need to bust it apart and get a new center pin and bolt the jeep top leaf to the s-10 pack

I've not doneit so I only know what i've read on the xj and s-10 springs, the s10's have more arch. I would think the 2wd is nearly the same as the 4x

I've got a friend building a 91xj and I was wondering how much lift do you get from the zj coils?

I have another question with regards to the 4.0. I just traded for an commando w/factory 304/3sp, and I'm wanting to put the 304 in my cj8, then put a 4.0 into the cammando.  I have a 4.0 tb from a 89 XJ but can not seemed to find any info on the install.  I guess it will be trial/error, but if any of you can help it would be greatly appreciated. Cammando has dana44 rear, dana30 front with 3.73 gears. Plans for the cammando are to make a moderate crawler, nothing really xtreme.
