I carry a eTrex legend for geocacging and for safety but I'll be damned if the TomTom one I use in my DD (which I have been using in the Jeep as my primary Speedo since my needle fell off and dissapeared, anyone have a spare?) didnt recognize the trail (Main Divide Trail by Santigo Peak) I was on and led me back to my house after a long day trail hoppin in the so cal sun hitting "Trail closed" signs everywhere - I might just run it on some of the more "off the wall" places too...

I was teaching a group of boy scouts how to use a map and compass, for some this is easy to learn for others, well good luck, one of the mothers was having a hard time following along and said his is stupid we have a gps why don't you help us learn how to use them. I asked what if the battery goes dead or you drop and break it? the gps is great but you still need to learn the basic skills. just like learning math is stupid because you can use a calculator? hmm..
I use the electronics also, this just popped into my mind when I read your thread I guess because it was a recent experience. those things are awesome

Hey I know that trail! You were up in our back yard (JpMagazine.com's World Headquarters is in Irvine).

So maybe I'm reading it wrong but TomTom did get you out or didn't?

Did I read this correctly? Your GPS gives you your Speed while driving? I've been looking to pick one up, I have it on my cellphone (GPS) but I'd like one to use for normal driving , but yes, does your gps give you a speedo read out? and which model do you have, how much $ ?
