I have an inline 6 cylinder 258 engine in my 82 jeep cherokee, I'd like to stay with this engine, but it desparately needs more power. I'm thinking of a complete rebuild, to raise compression, a mild cam, a header, a 2bbl. model 2100 motorcraft carb, and a cylinder head from a 4.0 liter. My question is, how do I modify the 4.0 liter head to work? Also, what type of vehicle would I find the 2100 carb on, and how will I know thats the one I want? And how much power can I expect out of this when I'm done. If anybody has any words of wisdom, I'd appreciate your response, Thanks, fsjeeper

those are fairly strong motors even when they are wore out, check the timming. more compression will lead to buying high octane fuel, throw in a cam around 258-260 duration @.050 with a 110 or 112 lobe center, high flow cat back and leave the stock exhaust manifold alone unless it is cracked. have the stock head ground and decked just enough to true it up. if your carb is in good working condition use it, just dont get carried away with a huge carb.
These tires were made for muddin and they're gonna throw mud all over you.
