I can unlock the hubs on the front of my jeep so why couldn't i weld the front (redneck locker) and be good to go? I'm not sure how a locker in the front works.

A locker in the front works the same as it does in the rear. Yes you could weld up the front end which would make it act like a spool. What do you use your Jeep for, dialy driver or trail machine? Before getting lockers it might be good to learn how friction works between your tires and the ground, this may effect your desire to lock the front end.

Its just a trail machine. How bad do would it hop? I don't like lockers I had one in the rear and hated it traded for a limited slip. I do a lot of trails that are very tight and being able to turn is a must so I had to switch it out. But how bad does it make it in the front?

With it welded the front will try to track in a straight line, This makes the turning radius much bigger. As for hopping its much more prevelant than just being in 4wd. So for tight trails you will get good at the 3-point turn. If you have a limited slip in the back I would just keep your front end open for now. But the choice is ultimatly yours. For a trail machine if you want to lock the front its cheep and permanent. If you do weld it make sure that there are no contaminants in the area you are welding or your weld will be very week and prone to breaking under much less stress. An EZ-locker in the front would be a good solution, they are fairly un agressive and allow you to turn further befor the locker engages.

It would be a PAIN to turn with a welded front. You said you hate lockers... well welding is worse, especialy in the front.
An Aussie locker would be a good choice for going cheap and locking the front.
If you really need good traction and turning I would go back to the locker in the back and leave the front open or go ARB or electric so you can shut it off for tight turns.
So it's not a Jeep... sue me... it's still faster!
