I will be installing 456's in my 91 yj with a frt. d30 (disconnect and small u joints) and a rear xj d44. My problem is I can only afford to either put a detroit locker in the rear and leave the front alone or put chromolly axles with the larger u joints in the front and an aussie locker in the rear. I only put about 2000 miles per year but have to drive 100 to 200 miles to wheel (rubicon, pismo, sierra nevada mts.) Any advice is appreciated.

The aussie locker has an unconditional life time warranty... something to consider.
My friend is doing the same with his XJ. Aussie in the back (8.8) and new shafts ect in the front.
So it's not a Jeep... sue me... it's still faster!

Both are good but I think if I were in your shoes Id go with the chromo front shafts/larger u joints and the aussie rear

Tentatively, I agree with the guys above... but what size tires are you going to put on it?

I'd put my money in the Detroit Locker for the rear. That axle will be with you a while. The front on the other hand may not, depending on your driving habits. I hate to put money into a part that I don't plan to keep a while.
No need for whiz-bang fancy axle parts up front unless you have a locker up there too.
