Hello All,

My name is Jimmy and this is my first post. Im 29 and have been wheelin in one way or another since the age of 6. I've been wheelin' my 74' Bronco for the past 10 years and decided to restore it and naturally get a new toy, a Jeep Cherokee Anyways.......

I recently bought a 97' Jeep Cherokee that has a 4.5 inch lift and 31 BFG's.  It also has aftermarket lower control arms, trans drop bracket, slip yoke elimonator, adjustable track bar, drop pitman arm and rear locker.

Last weekend, I bought and installed a 2" coil spacer ontop of the 4.5" lift. My problem is that it drives fine on the road, UNTIL I hit speeds between 45-55 mph.  Then it hops very bad, to the point I have to hit the brakes,so I don't take anyone out. Then it is fine till I hit the mentioned speeds again.  I've pooked my ugly mug out the window and noticed that the tire/wheel shakes very rapidly, as if I were intentionally cutting the wheel back and forth.

As you can tell, this is a scary situation and I'm puzzled at the reason. I was wondering what I should do to remedy the cause. I'm thinking maybe install a new drag link, or track bar drop bracket, but I don't know if thats whats wrong   .

So, what better way to find a solution, then ask a jeep forum lol. Any info is greatly appreciated.  Thanks for your time!!

Have you checked your tie rod ends?

Iron,
Thanks for the suggestion..I checked the tie rods for both excessive play and for wear, but they are in good condition.

One thing I did notice, the Track bar and steering arm coming from the pitman arm are at different angles (around 20 degrees )...I think a friend or someone once said, that they should be close to the same angle...So, IF thats the case, I'm thinking a drop track bar bracket MIGHT help to get both to being the same angle (steering arms roughly 35-40 degrees)....

Anyone think the Track Bar Relocation Mount is it, or is it something else?????

Hmmmmmm...
Yes the steering is supposed to be at the same angle. if its that far out of alignment it will give you horible bump steer. I have seen people use several steering dampers to try and make this problem go away. I think the drop bracket is the best idea. On my 69Rover I once had a weird vibration at speed, my buddy told me to jack up one wheel grab the top and bottom of the tire and push and pull it top and bottom. If there is movement you have bearings that are in need of immediate repair. I destroyed the spindal before I fixed mine, I'm lucky to have not lost the whole wheel on the road.
Good Luck, let us know what the cure is.
