put it in 4wd and start to go and the *** thing pops back to 2wd.WOuld a linkage adjustment help?

Possibly. Also check your vacume lines for leaks, cracks, things of that sort that may cause it to happen.
So it's not a Jeep... sue me... it's still faster!
