i just purchased a 1990 model jeep cherokee laredo 4x4 4.0L (177HP). I have built it from the ground up and starting on the engine know. I read that a newer model xj had a different fuel injection and had (190HP). What all do i need to drop a crate motor in with this newer EFI system in. electrical, and ignition, or is it even worth it? please any info will help out. thanks

There was an article several issues ago (I'm searching for it, too) in JP about swapping a '99 or newer intake manifold (the old "log" style was very restrictive) and according to the article as I remember...the newer manifold had smoother runners allowing it to breath better...I believe JP said this retro-fit was worth a few (I think 10-15 horsepower). I'll keep looking for the article and I will let you know if I find it. I'm going to be swapping in a crate 4.0 and I'm adding a crane cam. I already have a pacesetter header (believe me, it does make a difference), also consider a high flow catalytic converter... although I deviated from the norm (I put on an old school glass-pack). I'm considering a larger throttle body and maybe a spacer... Hope this helps some...
