If you have a distributor that still has points in it and they crap out on you all you need is a screwdriver and a book of matches. First remove the distributor cap, loosen the ignition points hold down screw, carefully tear off the striker portion of the mathbook and fold it in half. Insert this in between the contacts and rub back and forth. Bump the motor around until the rubbing block is on the high side of the lobe and using the matchbook cover as a feeler guage set the points and tighten the screw. Reinstall the cap and viola your on your way. I have actually done this by flashlight, works like a champ.
