I will be upfront here, I am in charge of Yakima Products new Off-Road division. We have a couple cargo baskets now but I will be designing a couple new ones this year aimed at Jeeps. What is everyones preference? Hitch, Spare tire or mounted on top? I have one for mounting on a hard top and one mounting to the roll bar coming out next month...but what do real Jeep folks prefer?

I like them better on the roof instead of dangling off the back.
So it's not a Jeep... sue me... it's still faster!

RakDawg - love the Yakima product, durable, and well thought out... I've spent almost a grand on Yakima product over the years... Yakima ia about versatility anyway so please build a rack that give options to build, customize the Jeep rig - its all about that! Roof (mount) absolutely, tiltable for soft top take-down, easy to add the mountain bike mount one day, take down and add the roof rack the next. Lightweight though is key, so far my rig is far too heavy.

I gotta go with roof mount. I don't want anything tied into the hitch receiver, dragging on ground, had to backtrack to get my packed hockey bag on trails and only issue with the roof bag is tree branches.

Big fan of Yakima products. It would be great to see a roof rack/basket combo that held a good amount of weight, could be tilted/rotated back for soft top removal, and mounted on the lower windscreen bracket so that the windscreen can be folded down with the rack remains in position.

roof rack with rotating light bar wired though the rear so it can be folded over, mabey even a canvas or bug screen for camping. who wants to sleep up on the roof?
These tires were made for muddin and they're gonna throw mud all over you.
